FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION - DISSOLUTION OF OUR BLOG

Hi All,
I am advised that at todays Executive Board meeting, it was recommended by some, that a motion be made at the upcoming  Delegate Assembly that our BLOG be dissolved.

I would greatly appreciate every readers opinion of this act, be reflected in the comment stream! My reaction will be forthcoming in a separate Post; as I must calm down and give this event some thought.

It would appear from the comment stream that Randall precluded the generation of the motion at Executive Board as a violation of our Bylaws.

It would appear that whomever made the suggestion at the EB meeting will raise a motion from the floor at the upcoming Delegate Assembly.

I call for those who raised this idea to identify themselves, here in this BLOG; so our readers will know who would restrict our right of expression!!

All readers and contributers should consider attending this Delegate Assembly on March 5th. 2010 in the Clubhouse theater; If this scurrilous motion is made, make your voices heard in opposition.

Thanks Randall for correcting my original Post.

It was my intent to Post what would have been a Civics lesson on Freedom of the Press; I see clearly from the comment stream, that this is totally unnecessary.

Thanks,
Dave Israel

  1. I made it very clear today that a motion cannot originate from the Executive Board. There was a attempt at such a motion, but I objected by stating that it was an improper venue to do so. It was suggested that such a vote could be taken from the floor at the Delegate Assembly.
That is where it stands at this point in time. No motion, no vote, no decision.
I venture to say that it would be appropriate, should the Board so determine, that the Blog be unofficiated and the seal removed. But a vote to remove the Blog... I don't think so, unless the Blog BELONGED to UCO.
If the Blog were unofficiated prior to the meeting, there would be no jurisdiction within UCO that could cause its removal.
This is NOT a legal opinion... just common sense.

  2. (a) This sounds like Part 2 of G. Loewenstein's effort to lose the Website/Blog. He claims the minutes where the Website/Blog was UCO-authorized have disappeared! (I am told).

    (b) I paid for business cards for UCO and the Website/Blog, I have not been reimbursed because "the Website/Blog is not UCO-official."
    Sounds already unofficiated to me.

    (c) I just added a Seacrest Services link to the sidebar, there is a ton of valuable info on that sidebar for everyone, and it promotes the Village. I frequently use it myself.

    (d) This attempt at removal shows a lack of understanding of the internet - the Blogs never go away, but they do multiply.

    (e) Thoughts about fascism and dictators' methods -
Create and/or wildly exaggerate an enemy of the people.
    Harass citizens groups.
    Target key individuals.
    Control the press.
    Dissent = Treason.
    Martial law.

  5. I believe that freedom of the Internet will prevail. There is no way to stop the disemination of iformation, good or bad. The current blog has many good features that the old "privately owned blog" did not have.

If the UCO will no sponsor a blog that is useful to the interested residents who use it, then new "unoffical blog" will be born from the head of the dragon.

It is sad that there are persons who would rather trash a noble effort to communicate, good or bad news, rather than to help build a structure that would be supported by all, including UCO.

It is my preference that the blog continue in its present form with all the feeds that exist, even the recorded UCO delegate meetings. Perhaps the disgruntled should be held accountible before the UCO delegate meeting this month.

  12. I can not believe that some people would like to stop this blog! But maybe they are afraid of what is really happening here in CV and getting to the facts of the matter!Of alot of checkered dealing, and miss information. I also would like to know who and why their reason for the end of this blog. This is one place we can get alot of very important information. It just blows me away to think that some people would really like to end this site, right or wrong. Well my vote as a delegate is to keep it going!!!!

  13. I am sure everyone will see who had input in trying to have the blog shut down. See who makes the motion at the delegate meeting and who seconds it. I am sure discussion will follow. if this is proper protocol. I am sure
randy can gives us some enlightenment on this..

  14. Hi Barbara,
The first order of business (relatively speaking)at this upcoming Delegates Meeting is the proposed UCO Bylaw Amendments. The more discussion which ensues, the longer that portion of the meeting will take. Those of you who know me, realize all too well, I can go on and on almost indefinitely! But alas,
it's too reminiscent of a similar delaying tactic used in the past and in all fairness, the issue of "Freedom of Speech" should be given due consideration, regardless of the outcome.

    Thanks for the Kudo's Dave.

  15. I will be very saddened if the UCO blog is put out of business. If it is, I hope you will start an independent blog like you had before, Dave. Blogs by their nature are going to have some extreme stuff, whether the silly, the gross, the uninformed, or the false. We know that going in. But they are also a venue for the truth, practical help, good humor—and not least, comradeship. Yes, there needs to be some control, but let's not have too much. I think you have done an excellent job of monitoring the blog, Dave. It has been like a breath of fresh air to me, and a joy to be able to communicate with others in the Village. As someone has already commented, this is the age of communication, and even countries that would like to keep the light from penetrating the darkness of their authoritarian ways, are having to reckon with blogs and their like.

  16. I was about to add my comment to the blog, but after reading your comments, Lanny, you have said it all. We are with you 100 percent. We should not be afraid to seek the truth.

  17. They can't stop The Blog. NO WAY.
Without the blog nobody will know
me because I will not be able to
    post a comment telling everyone
this Blog is "FROM THE NUTMEGGER"

    PLEASE.....PLEASE......PLEASE

DO NOT THROW MY NAME AWAY BY
    TRYING TO CLOSE THE BLOG.

  19. I am shocked and angry. The only people who would try to stop the voices of the PEOPLE in CV are the peopl who don't want open meetings in the first place. The walls of communism have come down. Why does Century Village outgoing Executive want to stop freedom of speech. What do they have to hide? I also would like to know who has the nerve to tell the people in Century Village to SHUT UP, DON'T ASK QUESTIONS, KEEP YOUR COMMENTS TO YOURSELF? I don't want these people runnying my village. This is very dangerous. I cannot believe the nerve of the outgoing executive.

  20. I, for one, would be very disappointed if the blog were discontinued. Having lived in CV for 31 years and a former VP of UCO, it gives me an opportunity to keep up with current events in the Village which are still of much interest to me. The majority of those I knew are long gone, but CV still has a place in my heart. New administrations bring new ideas which can be most beneficial to the residents. The ability for an exchange of ideas on this blog should not be abandoned.

    E. To keep the unit owners of Century Village informed on matters of common interest by any and all appropriate means, which includes a community newspaper called “UCO Reporter”.

THIS BLOG WILL NOT BE DISCONTINUED as long as people like Dave, Elaine, Ed Black, and others are willing to continue their efforts to maintain it.

  24. Even though I don't always agree with everything I read on it, I support our blog 100%.

On a side note, I have to say this is the most spirited season I've ever encountered since I arrived in CV back in 1984.

    Keep the blog!

    Best regards,
    Lenny Cohen

  25. Since UCO did not create this Blog
they have NO jurisdiction over it!
    The excuses presented at Monday's
    meeting, from "Up coming Election
Bashing to lack of unit sales"
    was UTTERLY RIDICULOUS!
Due in fact to UCO's "Influence"
the Q&A, came to a diasterous end...It could have been one of
    the most informative sites..for
    anyone, interested in Village issues.
Do attend and pay attention to
what may be proposed at Friday's
    Del. Assembly..no doubt by the
    same misguided individuals..

  26. The Executive committee is full of hot air. Our association has had 2 sales in February and one renter who moved in Jauary. I am so happy this group is out. We need a clean slate here, new blood. As an aside it was George's cronies who began the bashing just as it was George who started the dirty politics during his elections. I do still have a very good memory.

  27. Grace that is an absolutely accurate summary. This blog checks its facts, does not bash, and believes in freedom of information. The dirty politics and excess of lies is elsewhere.
