OFFICER'S VOTE TO CHANGE UCO FISCAL YEAR - IT'S LONG OVERDUE

-

For some number of years, voices have been raised to enfranchise our seasonal Resident Owners to enable them to join into the debate and vote on such major issues as our UCO Budget. There has been much talk, but today, the Officer's Committee took action. It turns out that a scant two lines in our Bylaws shows the way to making this happen; the following extract says it all:

The motion and unanimous vote was to move the Fiscal Year to commence 1 April, 2015; it was also voted to extend the current Budget year by three months. The new budget would be presented to the Delegate Assembly in February.

-

This will be presented to the Executive Board on Tuesday next, and then to the subsequent Delegate Assembly. Hopefully, the ability for our seasonal Residents to vote on the UCO budget will be accomplished in about one week.

Can "One Vote per Unit" be far behind; we shall see.

No, no, the drainage if fine. It's this opt-out thing!  It started with the WI-FI and they've opted out almost everything since.

Heed the red flag warning that if you connect to this unsecured network, others will be able to read your traffic.

The Roads

Regardless of what Gary Olman says about me I stand by what I wrote. I was at the paving meetings, was Gary and Ed Ross, who knows. I have seen paving companies pave roads in my time. For a good job they dig up the old paving and start over. A make shift cheaper job as we delegates voted for was to pave over the old road and not dig down. The man from the paving company and I don't remember his name told us the cracks would come back where they were. They have. So Ed Ross, architect, should know how road work is done as is professed in Gary Olman's ramblings. We got what we paid for. Ed Ross doesn't even live here anymore. If people are laughing at my remarks I could not care less. A good laugh is healthy. Have one  me. I stand by what I said and recall from the paving meeting.

The Roads

I have read the nonsense from Ed Ross about the roads. He is an architect, not a paving expert. It is very simple that they choose not to remember or were not here at the time. The paving company told us they would have to go down to bedrock and get a perfect road. If they paved over the existing road the cracks would come back. The cost to go down to bedrock was a lot more than we paid. THE DELEGATES chose to go with paving over the old road. The cheaper paving job. So why sue David Israel. Sue us the DELEGATES who voted for the roads that we now have. These people need to get a life and stop asking for money to sue ourselves. We are UCO. We voted for the roads as they are now.

The strategy seems to be that Solomon & Karpf, want UCO to drag the entire Village into a protracted EXPENSIVE law suit; does this sound familiar? There would of course be no Insurance to cover such a UCO initiated lawsuit; and "Money would be flowing out of our pockets"

Would you all like to pay for this financial adventure? It's so nice to have neighbors like this - can you imagine what would have happened had they and their friends gotten into UCO Office.

If Century Village installs a campus-wide integrated WiFi

If Century Village installs a campus-wide integrated WiFi system over the next year- Will it be necessary to renew the Comcast Cable contract that expires in a few years?

Right now we have WiFi TV, WiFi phones, WiFi Movies- so will cable be necessary in the future if Century Village installs a campus-wide WiFi program now?

Currently all residents pay $26.00 +/- per month for Comcast Cable in their monthly maintenance.

If WiFi could replace the cable- wouldn't each resident save money each month by not having to pay for Comcast cable?  (Probably closer to $35 per month with yearly increases in Cable costs).

Again the Comcast contract doesn't expire for a few years- So I wonder if Comcast is fostering the malcontent's  "LAN router - NoFi"  as a scheme to prevent Century Village from installing a first rate- stand alone WiFi system?  

 If Comcast could Kill the WiFi program now, then residents would be forced to renew the cable contract in a few years, and have cable costs for the rest of their lives?

Century Village is a cash cow for Comcast-- so is Comcast just sitting by and letting all that future revenue slip away - or are they working with the Malcontents?

Just a thought question- what are your ideas on this?

WINDOWS & MICROSOFT SCAM

Be ALERT, they ARE at it again.....just received a phone call listed as "UNAVAILABLE" the number
being 1-678-388-8312, an Asian Male, asking for me, when I asked what this was about, he proceeded
to tell me, he represents Windows and they have been alerted their is something wrong with my computer
(the microsoft program) at which time I interupted stating "Nothing is wrong with my computer and stop
attempting to Scam the public"  Dead silence followed and I disconnected the call....
They seem to make the rounds, every few weeks, and most unfortunately the individuals at the other
end all appear to be Asian...how pathetic!

Add a new chair (2 or more is best) in your condo

NEW SECURITY CAMERAS AT OKEECHOBEE GATE - SOUTHAMPTON BY WI-FI

Here is a snapshot of six cameras, 5 at different positions at the Okeechobee gate.

The five cameras at the gate, are wired into a DVR (Digital Video Recorder). The frame at the lower right is from a camera at the Southampton area, this frame is near the pool, and the data from this camera is being transmitted to the DVR by Wi-Fi. Without Wi-Fi at the Southampton pool, the cost to move the camera data by trenching fiber optic cable, would be prohibitive; This camera is a PTZ (Pan Tilt Zoom) camera, that is covering the entire length of the wall with the guitar center, the feed from this camera will be made available to PBSO.

Based on a study by PBSO, they recommend 19 more such cameras at strategic points throughout the Village. To transmit this data at reasonable costs, Wi-Fi is a prerequisite.

This is but one key value added feature provided by Village wide Wi-Fi, don't give up on real Wi-Fi.

ZETABYTES - CONTENT DELIVERY - CABLE TV - WI-FI - BILATERAL AGREEMENT AND "OPTING OUT"

Following is an extract from the Bilateral Agreement:

(b) Cable Television Committee

This Committee shall have jurisdiction over cable television to Century Village. The Cable Committee shall review proposals from various cable television companies to determine the best possible price for cable television to all residents of Century Village. Cost for this  service will be included in the ASSOCIATIONS budget once confirmed at the Delegate Assembly and paid quarterly to UCO as a pass-through expense.

The document from which this was extracted, was written in 1999, 14 years ago, in the earliest days since which Communications has undergone an incredible revolution; this revolution is called "The INTERNET", or The World Wide Web.

Based on the theory that this does not say Wi-Fi, some have decided to "opt-out" of Village wide Wi-Fi. My  claim, at Delegate Assembly; and now here, in the face of  much derision, is that this does indeed encompass Wi-Fi! Let's look at a bit of tech. talk. What is a Cable? A cable, is a wire, be it fiberglass or coaxial in structure, over which is delivered CONTENT. That content, can be virtually anything that can be reduced to binary data, ones and zeroes; bits. Anything, means record copy (text), speech, FAX, Computer Data, Audio, or Television.

Now let's look into the rapidly evolving now, and step through the future machine. Annual global IP (Internet Protocol) traffic will pass the zettabyte (1000 exabytes) threshold by the end of 2016, and will reach 1.6 zettabytes per year by 2018. In 2016, global IP traffic will reach 1.1 zettabytes per year or 91.3 exabytes (an Exabyte equals one billion gigabytes) per month, and by 2018, global IP traffic will reach 1.6 zettabytes per year or 131.9 exabytes per month. A byte, is 8 bits. Just think about this!!

Our content delivery (cable) contract expires in 2019, and no person in their right mind will ever sign a contract again; which chains us to the wire, at ghastly expense, and limited options; because now, the possibilities are endless.

In place of the Cable Wire, the content delivery system will be the Internet, via Wi-Fi!!

The world is changing, don't leave CV behind as the future passes us by, save Village wide Wi-Fi, be ready for the future.

3 Police Cars

9:38AM Monday August 4th. Just drove in the Haverhill entrance. There are 3 police cars near the laundry waiting to pull in cars for speeding. What a cash grab! You would think they have better places to wait for speeders, like outside the Village. Haverhill is a speedway but they come to the Village.

Written by a wise woman in the village who could not be at the Delegates Assembly:

In talks of cutting Wi-Fi, we are missing the point: Wi-Fi represents a savings. It's shortsighted
to think of it only as an expense. It will save residents money by taking Internet costs
down from $30-40 for  I month closer to $3-even $10/month would save $20/month. We should
be looking for other cuts or a more gradual method of building up reserves. Let's look for a
better solution-or decide to make the short-term investment for a longer-term gain. We
voted for Wi-Fi several times, a lot of work has gone into developing the right plan and we
should not give it up so easily.
And regarding concerns that some people can't afford increases: We need to take care of
and be sensitive to the poorest among us. We should do everything to help them with the
programs and considerable resources available. But we are not a community for the indigent.
We need to attract more residents who can afford to invest in keeping the place they live
viable and vibrant; we need a balanced community. Wi-Fi is a statement that Century Village
is a modern, up to date community. It's the only chance our most disadvantaged residents will
have to enjoy the benefits of the Internet.
We need a better solution than cutting Wi-Fi. We shouldn't vote to cut savings.
