INTERACTIVE FORMS FEATURE RETURNS TO BLOG

-
Your Blogmeister is rebuilding the Interactive Forms feature in the Sidebar of the Blog. I have started with a most timely form. As you may be aware, Florida Statute FS - 718.112(2)(d)4.b requires new Board members to take a State of Florida approved course, which UCO has been providing via Mark Friedman Esq. of Becker and Poliakoff. Many of us have a Certificate of Completion of that course.
-
However, in lieu of this DBPR approved course, a new Board member may execute a form statement that says that you have read and understand your Association Documents. This form must be executed within 90 days of your election to your Association Board. The form I have placed in the sidebar is a DBPR approved form for this purpose:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8WHEjvkxk1QRHRtZXp2cm1tRnc/view?usp=sharing

Upon signature, the form is to be filed in Association records.
-
Slowly, I shall be posting the various forms required for our Village Investigations process, which will make applying for Purchase, Leasing, Occupancy....Etc. more convenient, as we move toward an INTERNET based electronic system. Be aware, that after you have filled in the form, it may be saved in your computer, and subsequently Emailed. We solicit your ideas as to how to make this system better.
-
Remember to download the form to your computer to make it Interactive.

"CALLING IN" GUESTS

-
The last two times I attempted to "call in" a guest, it did not work. I put my name, address, telephone number along with the names of the guests and dropped it off at the Okeechobee Gate. Both times, my guests were denied access since it was not put into the system. If this system does not work, then alternate means must be made available to those who do not have a "hard line" telephone. This is unacceptable and an embarrassment to both resident and guest alike. If the folks at the gate are incompetent or otherwise indisposed, then they should be replaced.

HAVING TROUBLE VIEWING THE THREE VIDEOS BELOW ?

If you are attempting to view the CV BROADBAND, CHANNEL 63, or ADVISORY COMMITTEE videos below and you are immediately selecting the play arrow, you may receive the following message.
“An error occurred. Please try again later.”
Instead of first selecting the play arrow on the screen, select the TITLE of the video that is in capital letters and underlined (above the play button.) It will take you to another page. Then select that play button. I think it should work.

Thank you to all who put the videos together and thank you to all of the residents who attend those meetings.

CONCERNING OUR SHOWS: TWO NEEDFUL THINGS

From first-hand observation and from talking with those involved in our Clubhouse shows, there are two things I believe could use "cleaning up"—one quite literally.

1. The SOUND has been terrible. It nearly ruined the most recent show put on by the Act Two Repertory Theater after the actors and stage hands had put in months rehearsing. The sound, especially from the mikes the actors wore, just disappeared MANY times. One entire act was done without sound amplification, so all you saw were the beautiful costumes and the actors going through the motions. Realizing the handicap they were working under, the grateful audience applauded in mid-performance. Thank goodness for understanding patrons, but this ought not to be. Sound problems have plagued other performers in other shows as well. I don't know if the problem has been with the sound system itself or whether there is also an element of operator carelessness. I do understand we need better-quality mikes for the performers to wear. Can't WPRF, which is front and center on making Village improvements and beautifying things, fix this and spend a little money here?

2. I wouldn't have known this from where I usually sit in the theater, but some of those who have been on the stage tell me the stage floor is filthy dirty and never gets swept! Moreover, they say, there are "stickies" ALL OVER the floor showing where the performers were supposed to stand from innumerable past shows. This is what literally needs cleaning up from what I've been told, and kept cleaned up. Our performers should not have to work on a stage floor so ill-kempt. Has this just not been an assigned job?

A WALL STREET CLUB SPECIAL!

Have you heard of Century Village's Wall Street Club? They are a keen group of residents who meet on Wednesdays at 4:30 p.m. in Classroom B of the Clubhouse. Founded by Don Hecht in 2015, the club's object from the beginning has been to share insights on investing, NOT sell you anything. Don says he formed the club so residents, including himself, could pool their investing knowledge and learn from one another.

This club "special" is a showing of the film "The Big Short" at the Okeechobee Public Library this coming Wednesday, January 18 at 4:30 p.m. (in place of their regular meeting in Classroom B). The movie, which is highly rated and lasts about two hours, examines the reasons leading up to and behind the collapse of the US economy in 2008, now called the "Great Recession." Anyone may attend. Both the movie and membership in the Wall Street Club are FREE.

Sounds like a great take-in to me.

BROADBAND Q & A

From a broadband neophyte, or  nestling, as Heinlein would say, several questions regarding Atlantic Broadband Services' “replacement of the Comcast contract (Broadband” (UCO Reporter, page A3)

Hi all, these are important questions, so I am going to respond here in red:
Please recall that the contract is under negotiation:
Dave Israel

According to the UCO Association Fees, also page 3, each condo unit presently pays $36.70 for “Cable”. Mr. Israel writes that “additionally” each unit owner will have the option of either Internet or digital telephone. “Total cost being $45.00/mth/unit”. I assume, then, that the $45.00 pays for either TV + Internet or TV + telephone.

Question #1: What is the charge for TV only, without Internet or Telephone? Still $45?

The current offer by Atlantic Broadband for TV only is $27.00 for some 300 channels including either EPIX or HBO. This includes an HD set top box, and up to two additional HD outlets.

Additionally, AB will offer 100Mbit Internet for $17.00/Mo. With Internet comes, instead of the HD set top box, a TiVo T6 HD box which can record up to 6 channels simultaneously. That TiVo recorder adds $1.00/ Mo. So, $27.00 + $17.00 + $1.00 = $45.00/Mo.

Question #2: Does the “digital telephone” include, as does my present telephone, all calls to USA or Canada?
The Telephone offer is off the table for Bulk services. Telephone will be available, outside of the Bulk agreement for $25.00/Mo.

Question #3. What would the additional charge be for both Telephone and Internet, assuming mandaory TV)?

As noted, Telephony in not available in Bulk, to many folks have cell phones, and do not want a Landline.

Question #4. Any possibility of just Internet and Telephone, no TV?

No, virtually everyone watches TV, a package without TV would have no chance of passing.

Question #5. Customer support? I see AT&T and Comcast trucks every day: what has ABS promised?

Atlantic Broadband is including a complete wire maintenance program, in the contract. No more Comcast truck roll fee.

Question #6. Will unit owners be able to split between/among providers; e.g. AT&T or Comcast telephone and/or internet; ABS TV?

If The Delegates approve the Atlantic Broadband offer, it becomes a common expense, like the Busses, Ambulance, Security,...Etc/..and all unit owners will be obligated to pay the fee.
Of course, anyone can purchase any individual services from any vendor they choose, but they will still be obligated for the Bulk Services fee.

Answers or explanations appreciated.

I hope that is helpful, do not hesitate to Post follow up questions. We hope to have our Consultant Experts CSI present the entire entertainment package to Delegate Assembly on February 3, 2017.
