TiVo VOICE COMMAND REMOTE CONTROL - SIMPLE COMMANDS WORK BEST
-
Hi all,
We have received some complaints about the new Atlantic Broadband TiVo voice command remote control. The following should be helpful.
-
The Voice Remote understands most search commands (not soliloquy from Shakespeare) . Simply push the blue microphone button and speak into the remote and let TiVo® do the rest. Below are examples of searches you can do with your Voice Remote. Remember, to launch a voice command, first push and hold the blue button
- Search by title, actor, or keyword: “Find Modern Family” or “Show me some action movies.”
- HINT: Add on to your initial command to get more specific. For example, after the command, “Show me some action movies,” you could add “From the 80s...just the ones with Bruce Willis.”
- Watch a show: “Play the latest episode of Modern Family.”
- Launch an app: “Launch Netflix.” Of course you must have a Netflix account.
- You may simply say "channel 2...Etc." to navigate to any particular channel.
I hope this is helpful, of course, read the little manual that you got with the TiVo; and then experiment.
In due course, UCO will run some training courses.

AN OPEN EMAIL TO BRIAN ROBERTS
-
So, who is Brian Roberts? Brian is the CEO of COMCAST, the company that was founded by his father. COMCAST has some 22 million TV subscribers, and about 26 million INTERNET subscribers. Following is an Email that I sent to Brian this very day. I hope CEO - Brian reads my Email, and thinks about the 14 thousand seniors here in Century Village - West Palm Beach.
-
Hi Mr. Roberts,
I am Dave Israel, President of the United Civic Organization of Century Village, West Palm Beach, Florida.
-
We recently decided, after much negotiation, to change our Cable provider from COMCAST to Atlantic Broadband, effective July 2019.
-
Initially, COMCAST contracted with one Charlie Gilsinan to recover COMCAST equipment from our 7854 residential units, which he was doing, very efficiently - a great convenience to our senior residents.
-
Then, we have reason to believe, that a local COMCAST sales chief, Rafael Visbal, who lost the COMCAST account here in Century Village, interfered with Charlie's recovery work and caused it to be terminated, see:
-
-
This spiteful act is causing great inconvenience to thousands of senior citizens, and is highly unworthy of a great company like COMCAST.
-
We would appreciate this decision being reversed, and that Charlie be re-engaged to recover COMCAST equipment immediately.

PS: Lanny, I hope this answers you and many others who are asking the same question that you raised in this blog.-
INSTRUCTIONS ON USING THE NEW TV SERVICE?
At one time I recall the Broadband Committee discussing
having a team of instructors go out among the associations and
teach the residents how to use the new Atlantic Broadband TV, in particular the
remote. I think this was going to be done by first having AB personnel
thoroughly teach Village volunteers, and then having the volunteers spread out
among the various condo associations.
Is this still on the burner? Will we have to wait for it
until June 30, when the old Comcast contract expires, or can it be started now?
I ask because I hear a lot of complaints about how difficult it is to find what
you want using the new remote and with the different format on the TV screen.
People are saying how "simple" it was with Comcast (forgetting, of
course, how long it took them to learn their remote). The sooner this can be
implemented, the better I would think, and the sooner an end put TO A GROWING NUMBER OF DISSATISFIED RESIDENTS.

Hepatitis Shot
Just came back from Publix to get my Hepatitis shot to not get the disease.
The cost without insurance is $125. It is well worth it to get the shot and
not the disease. I got it at the Publix on Haverhill Rd.

GOOD SERVICE DESERVES RECOGNITION - HAVERTYS
I wanted to take this opportunity to let my fellow residents know of the excellent customer service I received from Havertys Furniture on Okeechobee. Two seasons ago, we purchased a sectional couch at the aforementioned store. When we returned this season, we noticed one of the pieces started turning a yellowish/green by the foot rest and seating area. I took the protection plan that supposedly covered "anything" that went wrong with the piece. I submitted the claim and was quickly denied by Guardian Insurance in an email that did not even provide for a reply or further discussion.
We went to Havertys where we purchased the piece and met with John Aldao, the manager. He was empathetic and understanding. It was clear he wanted to help. He went on his computer and prepared a "ticket" for us to alert Haverty Customer Service of our issue. Shortly thereafter, we received a call from Haverty Customer Service asking us about the condition. Within two days we learned Haverty would replace the piece and they would deal with Guardian Insurance. The piece was delivered today.
The moral of the story is you get what you pay for. Luckily, we chose a reputable company that stands behind its merchandise and a manager that was willing to work with a customer to ensure satisfaction.
If you are shopping for furniture, I recommend visiting that store and letting Mr. Aldao know you read about his good work.

Backing in parking
We have noticed some cars backing into their association parking spot. For safety measures our association would like to do the same. Do we need a special permission to do so. Thank you.

DISPUTE ABOUT MY FINAL COMCAST BILL
A week ago, on March 28, Atlantic Broadband came to
Sheffield N and completed their installations in many of our units, including
mine. Except for a little trouble with the phone service, it seems they did a
good job. The AB tech notified Comcast, and later in the afternoon the Comcast
guy came by and removed the old Comcast equipment. He gave me a receipt with his name, the removal date, and the serial
numbers of three items he removed noted.
I'm glad he did that, for yesterday a bill from Comcast
(Xfinity) came in the mail for $88.76 for the period April 8 to May 7, which by
rights I shouldn't have to pay. To be sure we were on the same page about this,
I called Comcast. I was told I would
have to pay it! My arguments that April 8 to May 7 was well in the future, so
no proration was necessary, fell on deaf ears, so I asked to speak with a
supervisor. "There will be a brief hold," I was told. After fifteen
minutes I hung up the phone, muttering to myself, "Yeah, brief!" But about ten minutes later I got a call from the Comcast supervisor. She said
their records showed that one of the return items was missing. I then read to
her the serial numbers of the three
returned items, and she agreed, the mistakes were theirs, and I owed them
nothing. I didn't bother asking whether I would be reimbursed for the few days
in late March and early April I had for paid for previously. No sense being too
picayune about small change; maybe a refund will be generated, maybe it won't.
I'm posting this on
the blog to point out that Jody Lebel and others are right, that you should be
sure to get a RECEIPT for the Comcast equipment you turn in or they pick up,
and make sure it's signed, dated, and the serial numbers of the equipment
noted.

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN A SMOKE FREE BUILDING - YOUR ANSWER MAY BE HERE

Dave Israel
Good afternoon Mr. Israel,
My name is Janiece Davis and I oversee the Tobacco Free Florida Palm Beach County Program. Our program has worked with Century Village in the past to help several associations implement smoke-free policies. I was wondering if you knew the best method to reach out to the various associations to see whether or not their communities have a smoke-free policy in place. So far I know for sure Kent A, Kent C, Cambridge S, Chatman C, Kingswood D, and Windsor H have smoke-free policies in place. If the associations could contact me and let me know if they have a smoke-free policy for their communities that would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much.
