Friends keep sending me this stuff ...
Skinny Dipping The Whole Story:

An elderly man in Florida had owned a large farm for several years. He had a large pond in the back.
It was properly shaped for swimming, so he fixed it up nice with picnic tables, horseshoe courts, and some orange, and lime trees.
One evening the old farmer decided to go down to the pond, as he hadn't been there for a while, and look it over.
He grabbed a five-gallon bucket to bring back some fruit. As he neared the pond, he heard voices shouting and laughing with glee.
As he came closer, he saw it was a bunch of young women skinny-dipping in his pond. He made the women aware of his presence and
they all went to the deep end.
One of the women shouted to him, 'we're not coming out until you leave!'
The old man frowned, 'I didn't come down here to watch you ladies swim naked or make you get out of the pond naked.. '
Holding the bucket up he said, 'I'm here to feed the alligator.'

Some old men can still think fast

Tax Refund Scam

-
The IRS asked my son why he filed twice – someone else had scooped his refund. And from daughter in Tampa - “It is running rampant here with the theft of ss# and filing fake returns.  For example, people in medical offices are selling patient information to people who then turn around and file a false tax return and collect the $.

Rumor Control

There is NO TRUTH to the rumor that the Resident Show would be terminated. The rumor had run wild, petition, picketing, and the PB Post in the person (oh no!) of Frank Cerabino.
No-one had checked on the rumor by calling UCO or WPRF, that would easily have reassured the village.

So it was “Let's Put On A Show” at UCO this morning. No harm, no foul, maybe a little raised blood pressure.

Angry customers more likely to be lying

Posted on March 23, 2012 by Marketing
The customer is always right, unless they’re really angry in which case it’s more likely they’re actually lying if new research from the University of Sydney is to be believed.
The study, conducted by the university’s business school, found that people who lie during a service encounter have more extreme reactions to the outcome than their honest peers.
The explanation behind this phenomena is that the effort put into constructing the lie polarises the reaction to the lie’s response – if the story isn’t believed the teller is usually more surprised and has a stronger reaction, whereas if the story is believed the consumer usually feels more satisfied for having lied to get what they want than if they told the truth.
“Lying is hard work,” Dr Christina Anthony, the project’s lead researcher, elaborates. More >> http://www.marketingmag.com.au/news/angry-customers-more-likely-to-be-lying-12035/

AM I THE ONLY ONE?

Because I can get them for free, I have been reading old spy stories lately on my Kindle. So I was “in the mood” to buy Comcast’s shortened version of “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy” and watch it over the weekend. I never saw the original TV series. The only trouble starting out is that it has been like all these movies nowadays.
Our high school English teacher told us about the literary device called a flashback, but it seems that the movies are carrying flashbacks to great lengths today. Flashbacks are going off like flashbulbs—all over the place.
Different chapters in a book are often about “parallel” action taking place—that’s all right except it seems to me the movies do this to excess.
I don’t find it easy to follow the unraveling of a mystery with all this back-and-forth taking place at lighting speed. I can’t even remember who’s who half the time.
I know it’s partly me, because the person I attend the movies with follows the plots much better than I. “Don’t you remember from the beginning?” she’ll say. “The guy with the scar on his cheek is her love interest in Italy.” But my friend often watches the same movie two or three times, which makes me wonder if THAT isn’t the moviemakers’ angle: to get you coming back.
All I know is, I have a lot of difficulty following the movies nowadays. Do you?
I’ll be giving “Tinker, Tailor” a couple of more tries today and tomorrow.

Beware of John: Scammer in our midst

I learned today of an unfortunate circumstance going on in CV that I wanted to share with y’all. I found out there is a guy named John walking around the village who promotes himself as a handyman. John is tall and slim; he's a very Irish looking guy who speaks with a heavy Bostonian accent. I learned that John sits at bus stops seeking handyman work. The punch line to his handyman story is he receives deposit money from folks and never performs the promised work. How do I know this? Recently I saw a PBSO near John’s residence.

By the way, in case you’re wondering, John currently lives in his blue Cadillac. A grey tarp hangs over the broken driver’s side window, and there is no tag on the vehicle. For the uninitiated, it’s parked on the north side of the Canterbury A building.

Back to the story – standing close enough to overhear the details, I learned that John had stolen $60 from a lady living in Dorchester named Marilyn. She had called PBSO to report the crime. PBSO did not arrest him or even deal with him. Rather, I overheard PBSO advise Marilyn to pursue a civil action in court, reference a contract dispute. Meantime, John continues preying on us.

John’s story doesn’t stop there. In speaking with a friend living across the street from where John’s car is parked I learned that John has actually been living in that parking space for several months now. Folks like my friend say they can’t figure out how this circumstance can happen in our community, and why it can't be stopped? I heard at the pool today from someone very close to CV Security that even though the security team is very aware of John and this situation, CV security claims to be helpless, citing to Canterbury A's residents it’s an association problem. The Canterbury A Association would like him gone too but they are also running into road blocks because John’s guest pass is issued by a resident of another association; however, although he is not living with or being supervised by that resident, they have not revoked his guest pass so he's free to live inside his car, in that parking space on the north side of Canterbury A.

The bureaucracy we all love to keep us safe also seems to fail us when there is a unique internal problem like John’s situation. As it stands at this moment no one is able to completely wrap around this circumstance to bring it to an end: not PBSO, not UCO, not CV Security, not the Canterbury A Association. Supposedly each entity is bound by some prohibitive bureaucracy or rule.

It's been a really great season so the intent of this note is not to complain. Rather, to the contrary, while the details of John’s eviction are worked out by all concerned parties, I wanted to warn y'all to beware of John.

Best regards,
Lenny Cohen

Questions from the Community - Directories

As promised at our last Board Certification Class, I would begin publishing some of the questions we did not have time to discuss during the presentation.

We wish to publish a directory of unit owners, including their phone numbers and e-mail addresses, do we have to obtain their permission?

Section 718.111(12), Florida Statutes, prohibits the Association from giving out unit owners’ phone numbers and e-mail addresses. However, an owner may consent in writing to the disclosure of protected information. Therefore, the Association should have its community association attorney draft a waiver for the types of information you wish to publish. The waiver must be signed by all unit owners whose personal identifying information (phone numbers, secondary addresses, email addresses, etc.) will appear in the directory.

Reminder: Board Certification Class Tomorrow

Tomorrow, Wednesday, March 21, 2012, from 9:00 a.m. until Noon, Becker & Poliakoff will be holding the final Board Certification class of the season at the Century Village clubhouse. Remember, if you want to take a Board Certification class you must do so within 90 days of being appointed or elected to the Board. This is a three hour class and you must stay for the entire presentation in order to receive your certificate.

Turnpike Sound Barrier

Why is it that Century Village does not have a SOUND BARRIER
along the western edge adjacent to the Florida Turnpike?

Plan To Speed Up Noise Wall Nixed

County Commissioner Jeff Koons thought he had come up with a way to accelerate the construction of a noise wall for residents at Century Village.

-
The retirement community is located next to Florida’s Turnpike, just north of Okeechobee Boulevard. Residents aren’t too happy about waiting another eight years, when the highway is scheduled to be widened from Okeechobee to PGA Boulevard, for a wall.
-
Why not extend the northern limits of a project set to begin in 2011 between Lake Worth Road and Okeechobee to include the Century Village area, Koons proposed.
-
It won’t work, turnpike officials responded.
“Construction limits established at Okeechobee Road serve as logical termini where an additional lane can be dropped at the northbound exit ramp,” James Ely, the turnpike’s executive director, wrote Koons.
“To extend the widening past the exit would require increased merging areas and contribute to increased safety concerns and the potential for future bottlenecks.”
-
Ely went on to say that projects in Palm Beach County are some of the turnpike’s highest priorities. It’s possible, if additional money becomes available, the widening between Okeechobee and PGA can start sooner than 2015, he said.
-
The state only builds noise walls when the adjacent highway is expanded.
-
Ely ended his letter on a cautionary note for the folks at Century Village.
-
The noise barriers “may not provide the degree of relief anticipated by residents and would only noticeably reduce traffic noise for those residents within close proximity to the noise barriers. Residents above the first floor and beyond the first row of homes nearest the barriers may notice little or no difference in noise levels.”

NEW LAYOUT OF THE BLOG

It's great looking, it's wonderful and easy to read. The new layout of the blog
is wonderful. Thank you for changing it.

Wireless Access

I read in the latest edition of the UCO Reporter there is a plan to provide CV residents with wireless internet access. I think it is a terrific idea. Does anyone have any information on this initiative? I would be interested to know if there are any projected roll out dates for each of the phases.

An Appreciation

Thanks to whom ever, found the time to UP date the Executive Board
List, on the side bar, much appreciated.
